Sarah Littlefield Bio.
Sarah Littlefield is the CEO of Townsend Learning Centers. Sarah founded the company with her mother, Rose Jane Townsend, in 1969. Working closely as a mother-daughter team the two women created a place where all could excel at learning in a safe individualized environment.
Three and a half decades later, Sarah continues to uphold the company mission as she has expanded from a small 2 person office next to the Falls in Chagrin Falls to 5 cities in Ohio with over 40 employees. Sarah expanded the services at Townsend to include workplace literacy, employability skills for adults with disabilities, psycho-educational testing and college preparation classes.
Sarah is a popular speaker and author leading seminars and workshops in all areas of learning. Sarah has presented workshops at the newly formed Education Industry Association on how to build the adult component of privately held learning centers. This has led to an active practice in which Sarah is consulting with other entrepreneurs in other parts of the country on how to build a business based on the Townsend model.
She is an active volunteer in the community having served as president of the Cleveland chapter of the Learning Disabilities Association and on the advisory boards of Children Services, Community Shares and Project Learn.
In 1988 she was a finalist in the Northeast Ohio entrepreneur of the year contest. In 2005, Sarah was one of ten women in the country to receive the SBA (Small Business Administration) Award for Businesswoman of the Year.
Sarah graduated from American University in 1969 with a B.A. in Education and a Masters Degree in Reading from Kent State University in 1974. She is married to Rabbi Bruce Abrams and together they have 2 children. Jessica is an actress in Los Angeles and David is a law student in New York City.
